Idea to implement greenery in India

Problem: Environmental pollution and Global warming
Idea to implement greenery in India
The main problem which we are facing is the Global warming because of the polluted atmosphere.
My idea can reduce the global warming and can bring back the polluted free environment

MAIN OBJECTIVE:
Converting the brown economy to green economy can be done very easily and fastly only by the Indian youth by starting an effective campaign by name “earth warriors” or some other easy feasible name so that everyone in India can understand the theme of the program easily unlike the other programs that we had earlier like great power race or carbon credit race etc., which takes time for the people to understand the theme of the campaign.

How can the earth warriors campaign be helpful in implementing green economy?
Under this campaign, students will be doing the projects that create the awareness on the environmental issues among the people. There will be about 1000 predefined greenery implementing projects and the educational institutions will be receiving the credits for doing these projects. This is just like the carbon credit race. But the main difference is that the innovations in the environmental projects and the new green project ideas will be given more credit points than the pre-defined green projects. The educational institution which gives the best output and solutions for the environmental issues in this campaign will be receiving its own fruits.

How should be the core team of the “earth warriors” campaign ?
The core team should contain the dynamic youth who have a complete awareness about the environmental issues. We have already seen the people coming forward to fight against the environmental issues like Ravi teja muthu from chittor, Andhra pradesh National Coordinator and Managing Trustee at Climate Leaders India Network, Mahender Reddy, Coordinator of carbon credit race. Such type of people who come forward voluntarily to fight against environmental issues will be there in almost all the states of India. And all these people put together will make the core committee of “earth warriors campaign”. This core committee should receive the salaries from the government just like the higher government officials.

How to spread the “earth warriors campaign” in India ?
This campaign will be spread by the students from K.G to P.G such that every Indian will be aware of the environmental problems we are facing in our day-to-day life and the problems that we will be facing in future, so that every Indian will give his best to have green economy in India.

How to make all the student community to get into “Earth warriors campaign” ?
Anna hazare, in order to bring back the black money he motivated the people by saying the fruitful results if India becomes corruption free…..
He said people what will be happening if 1456 lakh crores comes back.
1. India financially no.1
2. each district will get 60000 crores. & 1 village will get 100 crores
3. no need to pay taxes for next 20years
4. petrol 20rs diesel 15rs milk 8 rs
These things said by Anna hazare, motivated the people all over india and led for such a big successful revolution in fighting against corruption in India.

similarly, for every thing that we want to be happened we need to motivate the people by saying the fruits of the results so that every student will be in this campaign.
Earth warriors campaign will be just like a environmental race in which student community of different colleges will be registered in it and works on the green projects for which some credits will be awarded just like carbon credit race or great power race.

Difference between the campaigns like carbon credit race/ great power race and earth warriors campaign:
·         It is not restricted only to an engineering stream. Everyone in the student community can be a part of it (from K.G to P.G)
·         Every school/inter/degree/engineering colleges who initially registers in it will be provided with the rain harvesting systems to their institutional buildings and is given plants to plant in their institutions with free of cost. So that every educational institution will be the part of the campaign
·         Every student who is part of this campaign and the works against the environmental issues will be given a certificate which is equally valuable to that of NCC certificate.
·         Green inventions made by the students will be given high priority and will be funded to have the practical models of green inventions. For every green invention, corresponding institution will be given extra credit points depending upon the range of the invention.
·         Top 100 institutions in the race will be equipped with the solar panels in their institutions with free of cost.
·         Top 10 institutions in this race will be rewarded with 10 lakhs per college.
·         Top 20 institutions are recognised as eco- friendly institutions.
·         The college which stands 1st will be rewarded with 30 lakhs, 2nd with 25 lakhs and 3rd with 20 lakhs
·         Top 50 effective students will be promoted as the national coordinators and will get a chance to lead the national team in international conferences.

From where do we get the money to run this campaign? Will the Government provide us?
Estimation of budget to have a successful campaign is 10crores per year. We don’t need the aid of government to fill this budget. This campaign will be running with the aid of sponsors. We will be giving the enough publicity to the sponsors. As it is a national level race, many top leading companies like MNC’s will come forward to sponsor with bulk amounts i.e., we are converting brown economy into green economy neither from the money of government nor people, but with the support of the chair mans  of top leading companies
Note:  There will not be any scope for Corruption. All the money that we get through sponsors will be spend for green economy only.

Why India should go for a Green economy?
1)       Green jobs : placements
2)       Green business : by green innovations with ex
3)       Green education : separate branch, green country in the world

Regarding Green jobs President Barack Obama and a number of business leaders said alternative energy, such as bio-fuels, wind and solar power, and energy-efficiency projects will create millions of good jobs, as well as reducing global warming and the nation's dependence on foreign oil.

Technical solution to moderate the temp of the earth:
This mainly deals with the minimization of the global warming effect by reducing the temperature of the earth.
As we cannot totally reduce the temperature, we can save the earth by atleast moderating it.

Do you think moderating the temperature is possible ??
Yes, it is. Due to pollution, mainly in the cities, the global warming gases are being released into the atmosphere which results in depleting of ozone layer in that particular region causing high temperatures.
As we cannot totally reduce the temperature we atleast have to decrease it by creating cool temperatures in some places. I think this is only possible by placing water fountains at regular places.

Compensation method of solution:
Suppose if we are using an AC in a room, then planting 4 plants in the surrounding area thereby compensating the green houses gases emitted by the AC. This method of solution is called as compensation method

TOP SIX ENERGY CONSERVATION CAMPAIGNS

Today, there are hundreds of programs designed to cut energy usage and emissions around the world, from nationwide initiatives to local, grass-roots efforts. The Internet has made it easier than ever to reach a wide range of people, especially with the emergence of social media. Here are the top ten best online energy initiatives.

1.       TEXASISHOT:

Texas is a super-sized state with a super-sized energy problem, but one online initiative is showing how Texans can reduce their big energy usage with a few little steps. TexasIsHot.org was designed as one-stop shopping for Texas residents concerned about energy. It’s not just a clever name either—Texas is indeed very hot, and extra heat means extra electricity usage in the form of air conditioning, not just in the summer, but whenever the thermometer starts to sweat.

1)       Texas provides simple ways for residents to save energy, help protect the environment through conservation, and save a lot of money to boot. The campaign claims it can save residents of the state billions of dollars. The prospect of significant cash savings is one of the driving messages behind the site and one that resonates with the people who visit it, especially given current economic conditions.

2)       Other reasons to visit TexasIsHot beyond its cash-saving recommendations. Apart from tools like energy-saving tips and free household energy audits, the website provides the latest energy news for the state of Texas.

3)       Used the social media: follow @TexasIsHot on Twitter, like @TexasIsHot on Facebook
For example, when adverse winter weather conditions hit Texas in late January/early February of 2011, TexasIsHot tweeted up-to-the-minute updates regarding rolling blackouts and the stability of the power grid. This is a good example of social media being used to its fullest capacity. By providing useful content, they have been able to attract followers and friends to their twitter and Facebook accounts and readership to their blog, thereby opening many channels of communication to narrow-cast their message. Their built-in audience isn’t enormous, but it is focused and receptive. This increases the impact of their efforts, and increases the likelihood of their message going viral.

2.       EARTH LAB:

Earth lab is an established and well-respected online campaign for green energy and living. The site’s main claim to fame is their personalized Carbon Calculator, “a unique three-minute survey that generates a carbon footprint score (ECP Score), which members can then save, work to reduce and track their success over time, as a member creates their own personal green strategy.”
The first of its kind, the Carbon Calculator generated buzz early on in the site’s campaign and continues to generate buzz. Unlike locally oriented movements like TexasIsHot, Earthlab is globally focused, and so is its carbon calculator. The first question on the survey: Where on Earth do you live?

1)       Earthlab utilizes social media, but in a mostly perfunctory way. Their Facebook fans hover around the 500 mark, and their few wall posts are primarily fan-made.
2)       Earthlab’s success stems from another source: endorsements and partnerships.
3)       By partnering with celebrities like Mario Batali and Leonardo DiCaprio, and major environmental organizations like The Green Daily, Earthlab has set up a cross-pollination of fans and interest. The secret is tapping into existing audiences, making them your audience, and then keeping them there with great tools and content.

3.       GREEN SCHOOLS INITIATIVE:

Some environmental campaigns are focused locally, some globally. Green Schools Initiative is a nation-wide online campaign, but with a laser focus on schools. These efforts pack a one-two punch when it comes to conservation. First, schools have a large environmental footprint. That’s just obvious—whenever you get a lot of people together in a large building which needs to be temperature controlled and lit, stocked with food each day, and provided with bus transportation, you’re going to emit some carbon. Green Schools Initiative helps combat this through great, school-oriented tips and recommendations.
1)       Education: In many ways, our schools are the perfect place to start working on our energy report card. Why? Because they’re full of students! It’s important for kids to learn everything they can about energy and the environment. As the next generations, knowledge and perspective will be the tools they use to fight global climate change and work toward an efficient, sustainable way of life.

2)       The website provides parents, teachers, and students with a versatile kit of environmental tools including carbon calculators, informative videos, tip sheets, action plans and more. The Green Schools Initiative is constantly adding new content, and covers every aspect of school life. For example, schools are always having events and holiday parties, so the Green Schools Initiative team put together an article that lists ways to make those parties green.

3)       They also employ a Facebook group to get their message out. With a respectable 1,000 followers, they still have a lot of work to do, but they are primed to add more

4.       CAMPAIGN FOR CLEAN AIR:

When the American Lung Association’s 2008 State of the Air Report listed Charlotte- Gastonia-Salisbury, North Carolina as the 12th worst ozone-polluted city in the U.S., citizens of North Carolina took action. They created the Campaign for Clean Air. The website is focused on the health dangers of air pollution and lists the exact threats with specific information to back it up, along with images of those affected. The site serves both as a wake up call and a resource for those who want to make a difference.

1)       In addition to simply listing the health and economic dangers of dirty air, the site also makes recommendations on how to promote cleaner air.
2)       Finding ways to drive less, making sure your vehicle is well maintained, and using fuel responsibly are all listed as simple ways that average people can make a big impact.
3)       The site also includes a list of rebates and tax breaks that North Carolina citizens may be eligible for, and compiles a database of useful links.
4)       They’re using Facebook and twitter to spread the gospel, too. On their Facebook page you’ll find links and information about their recent and upcoming events as well as clean air-related news.
5)       What gives this online campaign such great impact and urgency is the grass-roots force behind it, started by ordinary, concerned citizens and packed with information and tools that are indispensible to the same, the Campaign for Clean Air is making an impact where it counts the most to people: in their own neighborhoods.

5.       MY GULF ACTION:

After the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster, never-before seen attention was focused on the Gulf and its environment. One positive effect of the spill was the increased awareness of our dependence on fossil fuels and the impact that this could have on the environment. MyGulfAction.com was founded to turn this energy and attention into action. More than just reacting to the spill (stopping the flow of oil, cleaning up the spill, saving animals affected by the damage, etc.) the goal of My Gulf Action was to independently act to counterbalance it through fuel and energy conservation.
1)       The website encourages smarter energy usage.
2)       Members sign up and log their energy savings.
3)       Drop by drop; the damage of the oil spill is counterbalanced. To date, the website has counteracted 50,871 gallons of spilled oil.
4)       The success of My Gulf Action can be attributed to the leveraging of a national event.
5)       Twitter and Facebook played a role in acquiring membership, as anyone that was using twitter during the Gulf spill can tell you it dominated the trending terms and hashtags for weeks.

6.       SWITCH CHALLENGE:

When it comes to online environmental campaigns, the best recipe for success is to keep it simple and to provide great tools. North Dakota’s “Switch Challenge” does both. First, it keeps a narrow scope: home energy savings in North Dakota. The website focuses on small changes North Dakotans can make to save some money on their energy bill (though the tips are really applicable anywhere). Switching to Energy Star appliances, for example, is touted as a great way to reduce your energy bill.

21 WAYS TO REDUCE ELECTRICITY BILLS

1.       Add a layer! Or take it all off! Common sense...if you are cold, put on another layer of clothes first. Or, snuggle under some warm blankets with someone you love! Don't just rush to turn up the heat! And in the summer wear a little less....

2.       Unplug anything you are not using. Even tvs, dvd players, computers left in standby mode are silently using electricity! If you are at home all the time, maybe staying at home with kids, have certain times during the day that the tv stays off. Little cutbacks like this

3.       Get an Energy-use Consultation: In many communities, utilities companies provide this service for free, or for a nominal fee. Many local volunteer organizations also perform energy audits. They can test your home to identify your areas of greatest heating/cooling loss, analyze your past utilities bills, and, in some cases, estimate how long it would take you to recoup the cost of upgrades to your home or apartment. If you’d rather perform your own audit, the Department of Energy has an online audit tool that takes you through the steps.

4.       Install Extra Insulation: Make sure your house is properly insulated. Any doors or windows letting air in or out is driving up your electric bill! In the winter consider taping plastic over windows that are single glazed and letting too much heat out.

5.       Seal Off Gaps: Weather stripping, heat-safe tape, and caulk are all relatively inexpensive and easy to find. Use them to seal off leaks to the outside of your home. Two things to pay attention to in your quest to mind your gaps: 1) The Department of Energy estimates that only 10% of air loss in a typical house comes from windows, whereas 15% comes from ducts and 13% comes from plumbing leading outside or to other un-insulated areas. 2) Ducts especially are tricky creatures, and sealing or insulating them improperly can be hazardous. Make sure that you know what you’re doing, or talk to someone who does, before you tamper with them.

6.       Install Door Sweeps: If you have several heating zones in your house, installing small, insulating door sweeps on the bottom of your doors can help keep those zones from leaking into one another. Even if you don’t have zones, installing door sweeps on your outside doors, and the doors closest to the outside, can cut down on air leakage. Sweeps are easy to install, and of low cost.

7.   Get a Programmable Thermostat and Use it: Set your thermostat between 60 and 65 during the winter and keep it there! You can set it lower when you go out. Why heat an empty house? In the summer try setting it higher, around 80 or 85. And invest in ceiling fans...they help cool in summer and pull warm air down to the ground in winter.

8.    Consider a Heated Mattress Pad: If you live in an area with cold winters, you can probably turn your thermostat down even more during the night by using one of these. The electricity that it takes to heat your bed is miniscule compared to the cost of heating your entire house a few extra degrees at night.

9.    Use Compact-Fluorescent Bulbs: Yes, the light they give off is different from that of normal incandescent bulbs. But they typically use 75% less energy, and last ten times as long.

10.    Use Power Strips: Even in sleep mode, your computer, DVD player, and other electronic devices use some energy. By plugging them into power strips, and then turning off the power at the strip, you use less electricity.

11.    Maintain/Clean Your Appliances: If your heating vents (or the vents on the underside of your baseboard heater) are caked in dust, they probably aren’t running at maximum efficiency. Likewise, replace or clean the filter on your furnace and drain the sediment from your water heater as often as their user manuals say you should. Appliances last longer when they’re well-maintained, and it will knock some money off your utilities as well.

12.    Make Your Water Heater More Efficient: If it’s an old heater, chances are it’s not as well-insulated as it could be. (Though be sure to first check the owner’s manual to see if it’s safe to add an insulating cover to your water heater.). Likewise, make sure the pipes leading from your heater to the wall are insulated. If they’re not, simple pipe insulation, again available at most hardware stores, should do the trick.

13.    Turn Down your Water Heater: If your water heater is set at 140 degrees or above, chances are that you can get away with only setting it at 120. The only thing you might need 140-degree water for is your dishwasher. Experiment a bit and see if you can get clean dishes at lower temperatures.

14.    Install Faucet Aerators: They use less water, even if you’re turning on the taps for the same amount of time. You should be able to get faucet aerators for less than two dollars apiece. Chances are you already have some form of aerator in your faucet (they’re those little mesh screen pieces that screw onto the nozzle). If you already have them, you can unscrew them and check the side for their gpm (galleons per minute) rating. If it’s over 2.75 gallons, it’s probably worth it to get one with a better, lower rating.

15.    Install a Low-flow Shower Head: If you take long showers, this is definitely an investment to think about. Most of them operate by aerating water. Note that low-flow shower heads should not reduce your water-pressure by all that much. Take a look at your local hardware store’s return policy, too. It might be worth it to experiment with several different types if you can return them after one or two uses.

16.    Only Run Your Dishwasher When Full: Unless you have a newer dishwasher with a half-wash option, you use the same amount of water no matter how many dishes you put in. Also note that since it’s hot water, you’re paying not only for H2O, but also for the energy used to heat it.

17.    Air-dry Dishes: Instead of using the drying cycle on your dishwasher, just set it to clean only, and open the door when the dishwasher is done. The wire racks in the dishwasher can conveniently double as drying racks, and you’ll save the energy it would have taken to dry all your dishes.

18.    Wash Whites on Warm, Not hot: Unless you or a member of your household is an athlete, or particularly stinky, your whites will probably turn out just as clean on the warm setting as they did on the hot setting, and you save your water heater from having to heat up several galleons of water to max temperature.

19.    Simulate a Low Flush Toilet: If you don’t have a new, water-saver toilet, you can simulate one by putting a clean brick, or a sealed plastic bottle filled with pebbles, or a weighted mason jar, into your toilet tank. This displaces water so that less is used each time you flush.

20.    Be Kind to Your Freezer/Refrigerator: Let hot food sit out an hour or so before you put it in the fridge, so that you don’t waste energy having your fridge work extra hard to cool it down. If you have empty space in your freezer, and live in a cool place, freeze plastic containers full of water by putting them outside, and then put them into your empty freezer space, giving the freezer a helping hand.

21.   Buy Wisely: When Buying New Appliances, pay attention to their energy ratings: An Energy Star logo is put on many appliances that meet federal standards for energy efficiency. Large appliances such as refrigerators, boilers, water heaters, dish washers etc. have yellow Energy Guide tags on them that tell you how energy
